Battlefield Archaeology

A major archaeological survey of the Gallipoli battlefields, now on display at the Shrine, reveals the brutal realities of daily life in the trenches for both the allied and Turkish sides.

This discussion explores what the survey reveals about the nature of World War One, the way in which different combatants understood their role and the meaning of the Dardanelles Campaign.

The ANZAC Battlefield: Landscape of War and Memory is showing at the Shrine of Remembrance from 14 April 2015 - 31 August 2015, 10am - 5pm daily.

This event is part of the University of Melbourne ANZAC Centenary Lectures, presented in partnership with the Shrine of Remembrance.

Please note: This event will be held at the Auditorium, Shrine of Remembrance. Enter through the Education Centre.

The Shrine of Remembrance is located on Birdwood Avenue and St Kilda Road, 1.3km from Flinders Street Railway Station. It can be reached by a pleasant 10 minute walk or by any St Kilda road south bound tram except Number 1. Disembark at tram stop 18, 19 or Domain Road intersection. The Melbourne City Tourist Shuttle also stops at the Shrine and the Royal Botanic Gardens, disembark at Stop 13.

Visitor Parking

The Shrine of Remembrance is surrounded by roads and generally, it is fairly easy to find parking close to the Shrine. Lots of 2, 3 and 4 hour parking is available. The City of Melbourne operates ticket machines and enforces parking restrictions in the area. Coach and Disabled parking bays are also available . More info...
